The picturesque colonial village of Pisac, located 32 km from Cusco in the Urubamba Valley, awaits your exploration. Visit the village’s colorful Indian market (accessed via stairs), a bustling display of trade and commerce held in the main square. After a delightful lunch in Urubamba, embark on a mesmerizing journey through the enchanting Sacred Valley to the village of Ollantaytambo, built atop an existing Inca settlement and the original Inca town.
The Sacred Valley of the Incas was undoubtedly a key area of settlement for the Incas. Its agreeable climate and fertile plains create a rare and fruitful combination for the high Andes. Also serving as the route to the jungle, it provided access to the fruits and plants of the tropical lowlands. The Sacred Valley served as a buffer zone, shielding Cusco from incursions of the Antis, the fierce jungle tribes who occasionally raided the highlands. Today, the Sacred Valley remains a lush agricultural region, supplying Cusco with much of its produce, including maize, fruit, and vegetables.
